Costco cuts $10 off on both Chevron Supreme 5W30 Motor Oil and Chevron Supreme 10W30 Motor Oil. So whats the difference between 5w30 and 10w30 as far as motor oils? They both are formulated using 100 percent synthetic base stocks for the best performance and give improved protection to high output, supercharged and turbocharged performance vehicles.
Compared to 10W30 Motor Oil, this Chevron Supreme 5W30 Motor Oil is less thicker, 5w and 10w basically refers to its cold cranking weight, the number are related to the viscosity of the oil. The higher the number the “thicker” the oil’s function. The 5w-30 has a better cold flow, it’s thinner at the same cold temp than what 10w-30 would be, making 5W30 Motor Oil better for winter use and 10w30 for summer viscosity.
