It kept the Vari-angle LCD on the D5300 which swivels 180° and enhance it with a touchscreen. Now you can simply touch on the screen to choose the focus point like you normally did on your iPhone or Android. The GPS was removed as the added Wi-Fi would allow you to instantly share the images with your phone. Nikon thoughtfully chose to leave the GEO tagging task to your smartphone.
The Wi-Fi, aka. Nikon snapbridge, is thru the NFC, a short range wireless RFID technology. With this wireless connectivity, you can even share the camera view with your phone. Click the remote shutter on the app when you see the best moment on your phone. Self portrait was made much easier. Nikon now has 35 models equipped with this Wi-Fi connectivity.
The 18-55mm lens runs very smooth for the video recording. All control buttons on the back are quite standard as you saw on other Nikon models. The stereo mic was built on the top.
Worth mention, the Flat* picture control was added in this camera which recreates the subtle gradation for the dark areas and adds sharpness to the picture. Saturation is also enhanced by tone. Your picture looks more vivid without editing. The Fn button, usually seen on higher model, was added on D5500 which gives you one-touch access to important settings like aperture, ISO sensitivity, AF mode and more.
